Kotak Mahindra Bank has officially announced the appointment of Bhavnish Lathia as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective March 22, 2025. Lathia steps into this role following the resignation of Milind Nagnur, who previously held dual roles as CTO and Chief Operating Officer (COO) until February 15, for personal reasons. This leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for the bank as it navigates regulatory challenges and evolving technology landscapes within the banking sector.
With over 27 years of global experience in technology and product management, Lathia brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. He initially joined Kotak Mahindra Bank in August 2022 as Chief of Customer Experience and Head of Technology for Consumer Banking. During his tenure, he has played a significant role in enhancing the bank’s technological capabilities, including assembling a high-performing engineering team dedicated to driving the bank’s digital agenda forward.
Lathia’s promotion aligns with Kotak’s broader strategy to strengthen its leadership team and drive growth through innovation. The bank aims to position itself at the forefront of banking technology advancements, particularly after recently overcoming regulatory restrictions imposed by the Reserve Bank of India on new credit card issuance and digital customer onboarding. These restrictions, stemming from earlier IT infrastructure challenges, were lifted after the bank demonstrated significant improvements.
Lathia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, an MS in Computer Science, and an MBA. His impressive career spans leading roles at globally recognized companies, including Amazon, where he contributed to the development of several core web services. This background equips him to spearhead Kotak’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, focusing on launching innovative banking products and enhancing customer experiences across multiple platforms.
In addition to Lathia’s appointment, Kotak Mahindra Bank has also named Vyomesh Kapasi as Head of Consumer Bank – Product. Kapasi, a seasoned leader with nearly four decades of experience in retail assets and auto finance — including 30 years with the Kotak Mahindra Group — will further strengthen the bank’s leadership capabilities.
